Campli is a suburb of great tradition and illustrious past. In 1771, the lawyer Palma, wanted to insert in town a place of sacred cult and, thanks also to the support of Clemente XIV pontificate, the famous Holy Staircase was born. It is composed by 28 wood steps, a role model of lateranense, to climb praying in knee, getting so all the Indulgences and the remission of sins and punishments. Still today, there are numerous pilgrims. Along the climbing, the believer can see paintings representing the passion of Christ, that is symbols of suffering on the way of salvation. On top of the stairway there is the Sancta Sanctorum. Finally, the believer, free from guilt and renewed in spirit, can make return to the light.
