Territory Located a few kilometers from the Adriatic coast and about an hour from the Gran Sasso d'Italia, the Municipality of Mosciano Sant'Angelo extends over the hills between the valleys of the Tordino and Salinello rivers. The extensive and characteristic meadows of this area are interspersed with luxuriant vineyards and olive groves, while the entire municipal area contains beauties and medieval artistic treasures that bear witness to the clear and rooted presence of a culture, a history and an economic, agricultural organization. and religious of the communities that gradually succeeded each other.
One of the driving factors behind the development of the municipality and its artisan and industrial district is undoubtedly its excellent geographical position, as it is fully integrated into the dense transport network of the Adriatic area. Mosciano Sant'Angelo is easily connected both to the Adriatic line, as it is crossed by the A14 (Mosciano Sant'Angelo / Teramo / Giulianova motorway tollbooth), and to the Tyrrhenian motorway, through the SS 80 Racc. Teramo (also known as Teramo-Mare) that graft directly to the A24 (Teramo / L'Aquila / Rome). In addition, Mosciano Sant'Angelo is well served by the railway network (FF.SS. station in Mosciano station) both local (Teramo-Giulianova section), and national, to which it connects easily and quickly (about 10 minutes) through the frequent regional carriers that from Teramo reach Giulianova.
Mosciano Sant'Angelo has long been one of the most dynamic entrepreneurial and productive realities of the province of Teramo and of Abruzzo as a whole. On its territory are located many companies of various sizes and operating in different sectors. They range from classic family-run businesses to large companies (especially in the agri-food sector), passing through small and medium-sized artisanal businesses. Among the many sectors in which the local companies operate, in particular agriculture and livestock, manufacturing (with the important and famous furniture district, but also the manufacture / processing of metal), construction and various branches of commerce.
Although the territory of Mosciano Sant'Angelo has been populated at least since the I century BC, the origin of the real village must be traced back to the era of Charlemagne (742-814), more precisely at the end of the 9th century when the ancient village is mentioned in a document of 897 and called res Musiani.
During the Middle Ages the village was fortified and in 1397 the Torre Acquaviva was erected and the walls bounded towards the east towards the ridge of the hill. Following this expansion the country could count on eight towers. Just in this period Mosciano Sant'Angelo passed under the dominion of the Dukes Acquaviva di Atri.
During the Risorgimento it was noted for having provided the cause with several prominent personalities including Aurelio Saliceti (member of the Executive Committee of the Roman Republic along with Armellini and Montecchi) and Domenico Del Zoppo, soldier of Giuseppe Garibaldi who fought in the battle of Mentana.
Typical Moscianese sweet taste is the "Book of Figs", a layered cake that looks like a rectangular package wrapped with silver paper. It is composed of ingredients such as dried figs, dark chocolate, almonds, sugar, candied citron, cocoa, cinnamon, vanilla, icing sugar, grated lemon peel and walnuts. Ingredients: 500 gr. of dried figs; 200 gr. almonds; 100 gr. of candied citron; 100 gr. of dark chocolate; 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder; 2-3 sticks of cinnamon, icing sugar and vin cotto qb. The mixture thus amalgamated, according to the traditional recipe, is placed in a rectangular mold and then pressed for a few hours in the appropriate old-fashioned press (alternatively, it can be pressed under any weight, taking care that it does not deform on the sides).
