Colledara, located at about 400 m of altitude, has a population of just over 2,000 inhabitants and is characterized by the presence of numerous hamlets and districts. It boasts a very suggestive position with a view towards the Gran Sasso and the Brancastello, Prena and Camicia Mountains. It can be easily reached by car because it is located near the exit of the A24 motorway and is exactly half an hour from the Adriatic Sea and the highest peaks of the Apennines. In its territory flows the torrent called Fiume Fiumetto, along which since 1990 there is a Regional Nature Reserve that protects many animal and plant species and offers the possibility of guided tours.
It is a village of medieval origin, first possession of the lords Castiglione and then of Palmieri and is linked to the events of the Sicilian Valley, which was one of the most important centers along with Tossicia. Even its fractions and districts are of medieval origin, while the birth of Villa Petto is not clear, for some being Saracen, for others Roman.
The queen of the table of Colledara is certainly the pork. It seems that in the village as in the surrounding area its production dates back to centuries and was destined for consumption in almost the whole region.
