The territory of Bellante extends from the hills of Bellante village to the plain below Bellante station passing through the small and charming village of Ripattoni halfway between the two towns.
From the village you can admire a beautiful view of the Vomano valley, the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso mountain range. In this Bellante has a strategic position, since it is just a few minutes from the coast and about half an hour from the first Apennine mountains, being able to count, among other things, on fast connections guaranteed by the highway 80 racc. eramo (known as "Teramo-mare") and with the highway is Adriatica (A14), both for Rome (A24, Strada dei Parchi), as well as from the railway line that has a stop at Bellante station. The village of Bellante Paese is of medieval origin and preserves a stretch of the ancient walls with a square tower with a gateway to the fortified village.
In the territory of Bellante the human presence is certain starting from prehistoric times given the various findings and remains found, while on the Colle della Civita, slightly out of the current town, have been found evidence dating back to the Italic and Roman period.
After the dominion of the Franks it was owned by the baron Todino Attone in the twelfth century and was later a fief of Gualtieri da Bellante. During the sixteenth century it passed to Acquaviva, while in 1820-21 it became one of the most active and dynamic centers of the Carboneria.
Tasteful of the Bellantese gastronomic tradition in the wake of refined Teramo cuisine. Among the peculiarities the local tradition of land snails, which is dedicated to the snail festival in the summer, with the customization of many dishes for fans of the genre, such as spelled and pancakes with snails sauce, guazzetto etc. Autumn event, however, is the festival of polenta, a full-bodied dish prepared by the ladies of the country according to the traditional recipe, with substantial sausage sauce and pork ribs.
A typical dish ... and its recipe
A typical dish of the place, of simple preparation, are the appreciated Pennette alla bellantese, proposed during all the festivals of the town. Ingredients: 300 gr. penne, mixed minced meat (beef, pancetta, pork) 500/600 gr., mushrooms and fresh peas, parmesan q.b. Brown the ground into the pan and add the mushrooms and fresh peas (it is important that the seasoning is very abundant), then mix the ingredients well adding Evo oil. Cook the pasta al dente and add stirring to the sauce, serve the dish sprinkled with plenty grated cheese.
