In a strategic position which dominates the entire Vomano valley, it has a horizontal crowning façade with a high bell tower that ends in a spire containing three bells.
The portal is in stone and on the architrave we read Quemadmodum desiderat cervus ad fontes aquarum vitae desiderat anima mea ad Te Deus. 1585. Templum Divi Egidii. The date probably refers to that of an important restoration of the building, whose main body should be from the 4th century.
In 1432 Pope Eugene IV arranged a further profound intervention that almost certainly led to the construction of the second nave. On the back of the building, the oldest, are partially walled with round arches supported by columns, while slightly higher up is the coat of arms of the Bourbon Gabriele Yllane De Castro, appointed in 1586 by the Marquis Gonsalvo of Alarcón y Mendoza to govern this part of the Kingdom.
